The next morning, The sun beat down onto Nick's eyes through the shades in his room. His eyes fluttered open, and he expected to see Jessica lying right by his side, but she wasn't there. He got up quickly and threw on a pair of boxers. Listening, he heard her favorite song playing while she was in the shower.
"The very first time that I saw your blue eyes, your lips said 'hello' and I said 'hi'. I knew right then you were the one, but I was caught up, in physical attraction, but to my satisfaction, baby you were more than just a face. And if I ever fall in love again, I will be sure that my baby is a friend, and if I ever fall in love so true, I will be sure that my baby's just like you," when Nick heard the lyric changes, he knew it wasn't the radio.
Silently, Nick slipped into the bathroom and stood against the door. He didn't go into the shower. He didn't scare her. He just stood there and listened. He was in complete awe of the voice he heard. It was strong and powerful, yet soft and angelic. Sure, when they were going down the road, Jessica would sing to the radio, but neither one of them took that seriously. Until now, that is.
"Why didn't she ever tell me she could sing like this?" Nick wondered to himself. The water turned off in the shower and Jessica was about to come out when she felt a towel being wrapped around herself.
"I'm surprised you didn't join me," she smiled as she turned around in his arms and hugged him. She stepped completely out of the shower and started looking through her bag that was sitting on the toilet seat. She found a scrunchie and put her hair in a messy ponytail real quick. She walked back into Nick's room, with him following at her heels. "Why are you so quiet this morning? Is something wrong?" she asked unknowingly and sat on his bed.
"You never told me you could sing. Like, really, really, really sing," Nick stared at her in disbelief.
"You never asked. Like, really, really, really asked," she mocked him.
"But... I mean... Jessica..." Nick was at a loss for words. "You have a beautiful voice. I've never heard anything like it," he sat down next to her and took her hands into his own.
"I'm gonna take that as a compliment," she laughed and laid back. "Your pillows are gonna get all wet. Sorry," she lifted her legs onto his lap.
"I don't care," he said and laid his body down next to her, nuzzling his face in her neck. Little did she know that ideas were steadily forming in his head. "So, what's the plan for today?" he asked as he wrapped his arms around her.
"You have a concert, and I have work," she said. Jessica sat up a little and leaned on one arm, to look him in the face. Nick brushed his fingertips down her cheek. Then he reached up and pulled out her ponytail.
"So, how much time do I have left with you till you leave?"
"I don't know, but you are gonna go take a shower and stuff now," she said and got up off of the bed. She pulled on his arm trying to get him up. "While I am gonna go make breakfast... C'mon. Get up," she whined when she couldn't get him up by sheer muscle.
"Nope," Nick laughed and grabbed Jessica by the waist pulling her back down. She squealed as her towel came loose. "It's not as if I haven't seen you before," he laughed at her as she tightened it around her chest.
"Well..." she didn't know what to say back so she just stuck out her tongue at him.
"Oh, that's real mature," he teased.
"This coming from a 19 year old guy who still obsessed with video games," she retorted. Nick stuck his tongue out at her. "Are you gonna let me up now, ya big baby?"
"Nope," he laughed and Jessica groaned playfully. "Deja vu to last night," Nick said and kissed her shoulder.
Jessica turned around quickly and pinned him by the wrists. "You are sooooo going down."
"I can see you," he smirked and purposely let his eyes travel down her body.
"I don't care," she huffed
and sat up on his legs, tickling him. Which wasn't smart, because now his
hands were free. Nick sat up over her and tickled her back. "Get off of
me!" she screamed through her giggles. Finally, she got up and pulled on
a shirt that was on the floor. "I'm gonna go change now," Jessica said
while trying to catch her breath. She grabbed her bag and ran into the
bathroom.
Later that day, Jessica sat at home at her desk. The phone rang, so she clicked on her headset phone. She only used it while she was on her computer so her hands were free.
"This is J.R. speaking, how may I help you?"
"Hello, hun. This is Denise," McLean for those who don't know.
"Oh, Hi. How are you?" she asked sweetly as she brought up another file on her screen.
"I'm fine, and yourself?"
"Just peachy."
"Well, that's good. I was wondering if you were going to be dropping by for the last concert. There are some things I wanted to talk to you about."
"I wouldn't miss it for the world. I just have some more work to finish here, and then I have to pick Kayci."
"Well, good. So, I can expect you in about 2 hours?" Denise waved off AJ, who was staring at her with puppy dog eyes to give him the phone.
"Definitely," Jessica obliged and began to wonder what she would want to talk to her about.
"Then, I'll see you then... My obnoxious son wants to speak to you. Is that ok?"
Jessica laughed. "Sure. I don't mind."
"Ok. Great. Bye."
"C-ya," Jessica said and could hear Denise hit AJ and give him the phone. "Hey, AJ."
"Hey, yourself. I know all about you. Why didn't you tell me you were so kinky?"
"You've been talking to Nick, huh?" Jessica blushed.
"I didn't have to. You should have seen him when he rolled up in here. I knew that look."
"Let me guess. The great Mack attack that is AJ has that look everyday," Jessica exaggerated, theatrically.
"You know it, girl," he smirked.
Jessica rolled her eyes and began typing fiercely. "So, what did you wanna talk about? Besides my sex life and yours."
"Well, what else is there?"
Jessica sighed and it made AJ laugh. "There is nothing else in your world."
"Ya wanna know from experience?" he asked, trying to use his raspy voice to his advantage. Jess could hear Nick yell in the background, "AJ! Stop trying to mack on my girl!"
"Yeah, cause it's not working," she laughed. "And aren't you on your mother's phone, young man?"
"No, it's my phone. She was just borrowing it so she could call you and make sure that you were coming down so she could talk you into cutting a-" AJ's incessant babbling was suddenly muffled by Nick's hand. He quickly took the phone away from AJ. "Ummm, Jess? We gotta go. Sound check and all," he stumbled over his words.
"Ya, sure. I'll see you later, ok?" she said while shutting down her computer and stuffing some printed documents into a folder. "I've gotta go pick up Kayci."
"All right. I love you," he blushed when AJ started making kissy faces at him.
"I love you, too. Bye, Babe," she waited for him to say it.
"C-ya, Sexy."
Satisfied, they both hung up and carried on with their day. Nick's involved beating the crap out of AJ and Jessica's involved picking up her daughter from school. When Jessica arrived at Marshall, the buses had all arrived and were sitting outside of the school, waiting to be filled. Jessica strolled in just as the afternoon announcements were being made. A few students occupied the office, waiting for their parents to come and pick them up. Kayci was sitting in a chair next a little brown haired boy with freckles. Jessica shrugged off the feeling that he looked a lot like Kevin but younger. She walked to the front desk and the parent pick-up forms while Kayci sat and talked to her friend.
"Wow! That's your mom?" the young boy asked in a hushed whisper after Kayci pointed her out.
"Yup!" she giggled. "You wanna meet her, Zach?" she giggled.
"Yeah!" he agreed quickly then blushed when Kayci grabbed his hand and dragged him over to where Jessica was standing.
"Mommy?" Kayci pulled on her jacket.
Jessica turned around and looked down at her daughter. "What is it Cici-hun?"
"I want you to meet my friend Zachary. Zach, this is my mom," she took the hand of his she was holding and put it in her mother's hand. Jessica smiled at the young boy and shook his hand firmly.
"It's very nice to meet you Zachary."
"It's a pleasure to meet you too, Ms. Robinson," he stood tall (but still way shorter than Jess), feeling very much like a man.
A girl came up behind him a rustled his hair. "Hi, I'm Zach's sister," she outstretched her hand to Jessica, which she shook.
"I'm Jessica, Kayci's mother," she looked down at Kayci and she smiled.
"Megan, but you can call me Meg, Everyone does," she said as she signed Zach out. All 4 began walking outside to the parking lot. Jessica noticed how young Megan looked, maybe 20 at the most. "So, this is Kayci?"
Kayci looked at the green eyed, brunette happily. "That's me!" she giggled.
"Cool. Zach talks about you a lot," she smiled.
"Megaaaaan," Zachary whined.
"Whaaaaaat? You do. Just yesterday you were telling me how you wanted to beat up that Bobby kid for pushing her and how you wanted to go visit her at the hospital," she teased and Zach blushed. Kayci looked at him and giggled.
Jessica liked this girl already. She reminded her of someone, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. "Hey! You guys wanna hang out with us tonight? We're just heading to a concert. I can get you in."
"That sounds cool. Ok, with you Zach?" Meg asked the little boy.
He shrugged his shoulders. "Sure. Why not?" he decided.
"We'll just leave the car here and ride with you guys, if that's ok?"
"That's great!" Kayci exclaimed. "I wanna ride in the back," she tapped Zachary on the shoulder. "Race ya," she said quickly and bounded over to the vehicle.
"She reminds me of me, way too much, sometimes," Jessica shook her head. "So how old are you?"
"19. I turn 20 in a month, though," Megan replied. "You?"
"19," Jessica nodded.
"And you're already a mother?" she asked as they got to the car and hopped in.
"Yeah," she sighed. "It's a long story."
