Jessica slipped into her pajamas after stepping out of her hot shower. Her cotton tank top and shorts rested comfortably against her skin as the cool air from the window blew in. The rain could be heard hitting the pavement outside and the sound relaxed Jessica tremendously. She slipped into her bed, attempting to fall asleep but she couldn't. She knew in her heart that she wouldn't feel the same until she got to talk to Nick, so she leaned over the bed to pick up her phone. Quickly dialing his number, she found that he wasn't picking up. It was 11 o'clock at night, where the hell could he be? The car pulling up in the drive way explained it all. She stood up but then froze. She knew she would end up blurting it out if she talked to him, and no matter how much she wanted to, she couldn't move.
Nick got out of his car and noticed Jessica's window open. He silently walked through the grass and looked up at it. He came there to say what had been on his mind for a while now. Should he call her? No, what if she was sleeping? Should he throw something? No, it might hit her. Then, like the bolt of lightening that flashed across the sky, he knew what to do. Nick cleared his throat and raised voice above that of the noise of the rain.
"Rain falls, angry on the tin roof, as we lie awake in my bed. you're my survival, you're my living proof, my love is alive and not dead. So tell me, that we belong together. Dress it up, with trappings of a love. I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips. Instead of the gallows, of heartache that hang from above. And I'll be, your crying shoulder. I'll be, love suicide. And I'll be, better when I'm older. I'll be, the greatest fan of your life," his voice soothed its way into Jessica's mind and she slowly walked to her window.
"What are you doing here?" she asked timidly but with a smile.
"I had to see you," he said softly, almost shyly.
"It's raining cats and dogs. Are you crazy?" she laughed at the sight of his drenched body.
"I'm crazy about you," he said sweetly in return.
Jessica shook her head and ran out of her room and flew down the stairs. When she reached her front door, she cautiously turned the knob and stepped outside onto the porch.
"You have one concert left, and you decide the smart thing to do, is to stand out in the rain... in the middle of my yard to say the least."
"I don't care," he said, not moving from his spot in the grass.
"You should. You could get sick and then not be able to perform and then you'd just disappoint all your fans," she said, walking slowly down the steps and into the rain.
"But I don't care about that. All I care about is you," he shrugged. They were still a good distance apart.
"Nick..." Jessica truly didn't know what to say. She walked towards his tall figure and stood in front of him. She reached out a hand and moved his wet hair out of his face. Nick smiled and Jessica blushed. "God, why do you do that to me?"
"Do what?"
"Smile like that. It gives me chills," she ran her hands up and down her arms trying to get rid of the feeling.
"It won't go away, Jessica," Nick said and brushed his fingertips across her wet cheek. "I've had this feeling since the first time I saw you."
"What feeling?" she shivered, not from the rain, but from his touch.
Nick paused and looked deep into Jessica's brown eyes. He took her hands into his own and locked their fingers together. Pulling her in, he kissed Jessica gently.
"I love you, Jessica," he whispered barely separating their lips. He backed away a little to see her reaction. Flecks of gold came out in her eyes and they showed her happiness.
"I love you too, Nick. I don't know how I can ever possibly show you how much," Jessica said in a trance.
She couldn't take her eyes away from his.
Neither moved.
Neither said another word.
They just stared.
"Kiss her already!"
The two of them turned around to see Sanya and Kayci in the window. Sanya pointed at Kayci and Kayci pointed at Sanya. Nick and Jessica just laughed and then Nick pulled her extremely close to his body. She wrapped her arms around his neck, while his slid around her waist. Nick grinned mischievously and Jessica squealed as he dipped and kissed her. The girls in the window 'awww'ed and clapped. When he brought her back up, she was giggling like a idiot.
"I love you so much," she was partially muffled by his lips.
"I love you more," he said back and kissed her again.
Jessica broke the kiss. "No way," she said and kissed him playfully.
"Yes way," he kissed lips and she jumped up into his arms. He caught her and held her up while running into the house. Sanya and Kayci met them in the living room to find the two of them, soaking wet, and still kissing with her up in his arms. Sanya covered Kayci's eyes, and the laughter from her made Jessica and Nick jump apart. Nick kneeled down to Kayci's level and she ran into his open arms.
"So you told mommy you loved her, huh?"
"Yeah I did. Thanks for keeping it a secret, munch kin," Nick kissed Kayci's cheek loudly. Sanya took her hand and told her to go back up to bed.
"Will you tuck me in, Sanya?" Kayci asked from the top of the stairs.
"Sure, hun," Sanya said and followed her.
Nick immediately turned to Jessica and pulled her into a long, deep kiss. When they parted, they were breathing heavily and were beginning to grope each other.
"I don't wanna leave you. Not tonight. Not ever," he pleaded in between kisses. Jessica held onto his face in her hands and made him look in her eyes.
"Not with my daughter in the house," she smiled evilly and then kissed his lips.
"Then come to my place. Please, Jessica," he begged and kissed her neck to get her to go along with it. Jessica wrapped her arms tight around his neck and he pulled her back off the ground slightly. "Please," he whispered letting his hot breaths travel over her skin.
Jessica almost screamed, but all she could was bite her lip and try not to jump him in the living room. Sanya came back downstairs and saw the two of them stuck on each other.
"Jess, why don't you go over to Nick's tonight," she suggested.
"But I have work to do tomorrow," she whined.
"You'll still get to it. Don't worry. Take a bag with you. I'll tell Kayci that Nick took you out," Sanya explained and pushed Jessica upstairs so she could make herself a quick bag.
"Thank you," Nick said to Sanya once Jessica was out of ear-shot.
"You'll thank me more tomorrow," she winked and went upstairs to bed as Jess was hurrying back down. She slowed down when she got closer to Nick, pretending that she wasn't in a rush, and he laughed. He walked over to her and extended his hand. She took it and he quickly picked her up and flung her over his shoulder.
"Put me down, ya big lug," she giggled.
"No woman," he laughed and threw her into his truck. He ran to the other side and got in. "Sorry," he apologized when he got the truck running and was pulling out of the driveway.
"It's ok," Jessica couldn't contain her happiness and took off her seat belt.
"What are you doing?" Nick asked while she climbed in the back seat.
"What does it look like?" she said and kneeled right behind his seat. "As long as you don't run of the road, I'll be fine."
"Why would I run off the road?" he asked quizzically. His questions were answered when Jessica kissed his neck and wrapped her arms around his seat. She began to tug at his damp shirt and lick his neck. "Jess, do you just want to die tonight?" Nick said trying to contain himself.
"No, silly," she kissed up to his ear and nibbled on his lobe. "I wanna get lucky tonight," she let her hands wander down to his pants. "Do you?" she slipped her hand under the waistband of his boxers, but Nick quickly grabbed her hand.
"Not while I'm driving," he held tightly onto her hand and laughed because she wasn't giving up.
Finally, Jessica took her hand back. She pouted and got back up into the front seat. She stared out the window but couldn't help taking glances at him every few seconds. Nick noticed and laughed.
"You're worse than AJ," he said through his laughter.
"Are you calling me horny, again?" she asked, pretending to be shocked.
"Yeah," he said back. "What are you gonna do about it?"
"Pull over and I'll show you," she played along.
"Are you gonna fight me?" Nick asked with disbelief.
"What I'll do to you..." Jessica said and then whispered seductively. "You won't be fighting."
Nick was taken off guard. "Are you ok, Jessica? I don't think I ever seen you like this... except for that one time."
"That's just it, Nick," Jessica said. "We've got a lot of time to be making up for. You don't know how many times I've wanted to just turn around in your arms at night and tell you to..." she paused. "Never mind, I'm just stupid."
Nick took her hand and squeezed it. "No you're not," Jessica smiled back and they talked the rest of the way to Nick's apartment. When they arrived there, Nick led her to his front door and she kissed him lightly while he opened it. Then, she walked in and as he was shutting the door, Jessica pushed Nick against it forcefully and kissed him hungrily. He picked her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist, like they were before. Memories of the corner in Disney flowed into both of their minds, as Nick carried her upstairs and into his room.
